Agent Builder has a fair-use limit to keep usage predictable on the platform and protect every account from runaway costs. The exact size of the limit and how often it resets are managed by PolyAI per account and may change as the platform evolves. You can see your current usage from the indicator next to the message input. The tooltip on that indicator shows the reset cadence (for example, Resets daily) so you always know when you’ll be back to full capacity.Documentation Index

How the limit works
- Scope: the limit is shared across everyone using Agent Builder on your account, across all projects.
- Reset cadence: the indicator’s tooltip tells you when your allowance refreshes. It’s typically a regular interval (daily, weekly, monthly) chosen for your account.
- Heavier requests use more of your allowance. Long conversations, requests that touch many flows or topics at once, and re-iterating on the same plan all eat into it faster than short, focused asks.
If your team consistently needs more capacity than your current limit allows, contact your PolyAI representative. Limits can be reviewed and adjusted on the account.
What counts toward the limit
The limit tracks how heavy your interactions with Agent Builder are: the underlying work it does to plan, reason, and apply changes on your behalf. In practice, the things that draw down your allowance fastest are:- Long conversations with lots of context to reload each turn.
- Requests that touch many flows, topics, or entities at once.
- Iterating on the same plan many times before approving it.
What happens when you hit the limit
When you’ve used your full allowance, Agent Builder pauses until the next reset. The chat panel replaces the prompt input with a rest card naming when it’ll be back, plus a Talk to sales link if you need more capacity. Two ways forward:- Wait for your allowance to refresh at the next reset.
- Talk to sales if your team consistently needs more. Your account limit can be reviewed. Use the Talk to sales link on the rest card, or contact your PolyAI representative.
- The chat panel stays available, you can read past conversations and review plans.
- Manual editing in Studio is unaffected. You can keep building flows, topics, and other configuration the normal way.
Other transient errors
The assistant also surfaces status messages when something goes wrong outside of usage limits. These appear as a banner above the input and are temporary. Retry with the action shown.| Status | What it means | Action |
|---|---|---|
| A bit busy right now | Agent Builder is handling lots of requests. Give it a moment. | Retry |
| Agent Builder is taking a breather | The assistant service is temporarily unavailable. | Retry |
| Something went sideways | Agent Builder tripped on the way to a response. | Retry |
| Lost my train of thought | The response cut off mid-stream. | Retry |
| Already working on something | Agent Builder is mid-run. Stop it to start a new request. | Stop current run |
| Couldn’t read your files | One or more attachments expired or were unreadable. | Reattach |
| Usage tracking glitched | Your last response was fine, but its cost couldn’t be recorded. | , |
| Lost the connection | Agent Builder can’t reach the server right now. | Reconnect |
| Connection trouble | Background reconnection attempt. The assistant will recover on its own. | Reconnect |
| Something went wrong | An unexpected error the assistant couldn’t classify. | Retry |
Tips for staying within your limit
- Ask for a plan before big work. A single planning round is much cheaper than asking the assistant to build, then redo, then redo again.
- Scope each request to one unit of work. Smaller, focused requests reload less context and spend less.
- Use the assistant for exploration too. Read-only questions about an existing agent are cheap and don’t risk wasted build cycles.
- Approve plans early. Long back-and-forth on a plan accumulates spend before any change is written.
